After 15 years studying and practicing Architecture across the globe, Bryan Cush teamed up with talented American Engineer, Greg Bielawiec, to establish an industrial workshop as an 'ideas testing lab' which eventually morphed into a contemporary furniture brand in the form of the Sawdust Bureau. The combination of creativity and craftsmanship paired with cutting-edge, contemporary design is what sets this Melbourne-based studio aside from the competition. Their end goal is simple; produce high-quality, handmade, low-volume, fully-customisable pieces of furniture made only from Australian timbers. The studio was founded upon the principle that exotic rainforest hardwoods belong in exotic rainforests and not in our workshop. We therefore only use Australian-grown, indigenous species of timber (often reclaimed or salvaged) and consider it important that our brand has a sense of place and tells a story of the Australian landscape. Our designs have been showcased at Grand Designs Live, Den Furniture Fair, Melbourne Fringe Festival and we have been shortlisted for 2015 AFA Emerging Furniture Design of the Year Award. Our work also been featured in local publications such as Timeout Magazine, Herald Sun, Inside Magazine and internationally in Design Milk, Surface Magazine, Icon Magazine and Trendhunter.
